Mondays, in particular, attract a large number of devotees who visit to receive blessings from Lord Shiva. During the Mondays of the Sawan month, the influx of worshippers increases substantially as they flock to this temple to pay their respects to Lord Shiva.
The Mankameshwar Temple
Dedicated to Lord Mahadev, is an ancient shrine believed to have been constructed during the Ramayana era.
Nestled along the banks of the Gomti River, it continues to serve as a significant spiritual hub for devotees. Commonly referred to as Mankameshwar( or Mankamneshwar), this temple attracts worshippers who come to seek the blessings of Mahadev, presenting their heartfelt wishes for fulfillment.
Located in Daliganj, Lucknow, the Mankameshwar Temple is a revered site dedicated to the divine couple, Shiva and Parvati.
Historical accounts suggest that after the exile of Mata Sita, King Laxman of Lakhanpur visited this location to worship Lord Shankar, leading to the eventual establishment of the temple.
The temple is attributed to King Hiranyadhanu, who is said to have commissioned its construction following his victories over adversaries.
The temple’s aesthetic appeal is further enhanced by the presence of 23 golden urns adorning its pinnacle.
According to local legend, it is believed that Mahadev once performed a celestial dance, known as Tandava, near the Gomti River in Lucknow. During this divine performance, the sacred “lingam,” symbolizing Lord Shiva’s divine essence, shattered and scattered across the surrounding area.
The Mankameshwar Temple, built during the Ramayana period and situated by the Gomti River, remains a vital center of faith for many. Devotees visit this sacred site with their wishes, expressing their hopes with sincerity.

It is said that the Shiva devotees of the south and the worshippers of the Tarkeshwar temple of the east, Sahnis, had maintained the original form of this temple till the medieval period.
Currently, the magnificent construction of the temple has been completed under the guidance of Seth Puran Shah.
Grand aartis are conducted at the temple during both morning and evening, captivating the devotees with their beauty.
It is widely believed that any wish made here with genuine intent is granted by Bhole Baba. Consequently, the temple attracts a large number of devotees every Monday during the month of Sawan.
The temple features a black Shivling, adorned with a silver umbrella, and the entire floor is covered with silver coins, enhancing its aesthetic appeal.
In addition to its historical significance, this temple is renowned for having the city’s first female Mahant, Arunima Singh, who later became known as Mahant Devyagya Puri.
